Longtime viewers of the show will remember a young Chesney only ever had one companion who was there for support when his wayward mother, Cilla Battersby-Brown (Wendi Peters), brought drama to their doorstep.

Schmeichel was given to the youngster by former owner Tyrone Hobbs (Alan Halsall) after he struggled to cope with two dogs.

Following the Great Dane’s arrival on the cobbles in 2004, he and his young companion became best friends and in one of the most infamous scenes in the soap’s history, he jumped into a bath and brought it crashing through the ceiling of No.5.
