The 42-year-old actress has played Leanne Battersby on the ITV soap since 1997, but her two boys, Harry, 14, and 11-year-old Sam – who she shares with her husband, former ‘Brookside’ star Robert Beck – don’t take much interested in the cobbles, and just view the ITV soap as “mummy’s work”.

“I was telling my youngest, because he’s quite the actor himself, ‘You know ‘Coronation Street’ is 60 years old this year? That’s like the longest-running TV programme ever.’

Jane thinks Sam may well try to forge a career in the acting industry in the future, but she wants to make sure he knows it is “highly unusual” for a star to be in a role for a long period of time.

She said: “I think Sam has got the bug. It’s a difficult one, because I was 11 when I got my first job, so I could never really discourage it.

“I just need to make him aware that to be in regular work for a long period of time is highly unusual.

“I don’t just want him to be aware of the nice bits because I know from my own experience and my husband’s that it’s not all great.

And the star believes her eldest son Harry could go into a job involving computers, which she admits is “no bad thing”.

Coronation Street returns to socially-distanced filming – behind the scenes pictures show what it’s like

The Coronation Street cast and crew have made an emotional return to work following the lockdown introduced in March.

Show bosses and stars Ben Price and Jane Danson have explained the incredible measures the long-running ITV soap has taken to ensure it wouldn’t leave our screens for the first time in 60 years amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Hugging and kissing scenes are banned because of social distancing as well as non-essential use of props and a colour coordinated one-way system has been installed on the set at Trafford Wharf.

The number of people working in the studio has been stripped back to the ‘absolute minimum’, cast and crew have their temperature taken as they arrive on set and location filming has been shelved indefinitely.

Coronation Street’s Nick and Leanne ‘split’ as secret from his past is exposed

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has promised an awfully eventful autumn, with the ongoing Leanne, Oliver and Steve storyline spreading its tentacles and drawing in other characters

The storyline will come as part of the ongoing plot with Leanne, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and their son Oliver.

Things are set to kickstart this month as Iain told Daily Star Online: “I love the Leanne, Oliver, Steve story. It’s incredibly heartbreaking but it gathers momentum in September and powers its way to the end of the year.

“It’s one of those soap stories that has tentacles reaching out into all corners of the street, partly due to the nature of Steve and Tracy’s blended family.
